Three Local Projects Receive Community Foundation Grants

The Lamberton Area Community Foundation has awarded its latest grants to three local projects. All seven applications we received represented meaningful work happening in our community. It’s clear there’s no shortage of great ideas and dedicated people working to improve our community.

With our current funding, we were able to support three projects that serve different parts of Lamberton. To everyone who applied: your work is valuable, and we hope you’ll apply again next time.

The following grants have been awarded:

Reading Support for First Graders – $1,800

This grant will help fund decodable books for first-grade students at Red Rock Central School District. Mary Hewitt, the first-grade teacher who applied for the grant, will use these books to help students with phonics during a critical time in learning to read. The books will supplement regular instruction and give young learners text that matches their current reading level, building both fluency and comprehension skills.

Weekend Meals for Students – $2,500

This grant supports the Weekend Food Program at Red Rock Central School District, which makes sure students in grades PreK-12 have nutritious meals over the weekend. Rachel Karnitz, who runs the program, oversees the weekly distribution of bags with breakfast, lunch, and snack items to about 45 students. Since starting in spring 2023, the program has consistently served students who would otherwise not have access to nutritious food on the weekends. Through partnerships with Second Harvest Heartland, each dollar provides $3-6 worth of food for families.

New Welcome Signs for Town Entrances – $700

This grant will help the Lamberton Commercial Club replace weather-damaged welcome signs at both ends of town. Jane Zimmerman, representing the Commercial Club, applied for funding to help cover the cost of new signs made from durable materials designed to withstand harsh weather conditions. These signs will greet visitors and showcase community pride as travelers enter Lamberton.
